Description

Read a dataset into memory, using extension to figure out file type

Usage

1
read_data(file, ..., guess_max = 1e+06)

Arguments

file

Filename to read

...

Further arguments passed to the reader function

guess_max

Number of rows to scan to check types in readxl (defaults to 1,000,000, which will be slower than readxl's default of 1000)

Value

The read data

This function is useful to read a range of datasets where you want to be able to use a single reading function. It's a convenience function, and obviously can't read all data types.

Notes on the reading functions:

The gues_max parameter is set so high because computers are fast and I've had a lot of issues with datasets that have blank cells for several thousand rows (which read_excel reads as logical).
