In Jelly90/FarsRPackage: Summarizing and Visualizing FARS data

Overview

This vignette summarizes the functions of the farsR Package which was build as an assignment for the Coursera Building R Packages Course.

Functions of the package:

• fars_map_state
• fars_read
• fars_read_years
• fars_summarize_years
• make_filename

Load dataset of interest

To use the package you need to download the FARS data and put the files in your working directory. Then, by giving a year of interest, the package summarizes of visualizes the data.

fars_read(filename)

Loads the data from a given FARS data file.

fars_read("accident_2013.csv.bz2")

make_filenmae(year)

Creates the filename for the FARS data file for the year of interest

make_filename(2013)

fars_read_years(years)

Reads FARS data for multiple years.

fars_read_years(2013:2014)

Summarize FARS data

fars_summarize_years(years)

Summarizes FARS data for each month for the years of interest.

fars_summarize_years(2013:2014)

Visualize FARS data

fars_map_state(state.num, year)

Plots all cases of a year or interest to a US map.

fars_map_state(45, 2013)
