In JoeHarkness/FARS: FARS Data Manipulation

Introduction

The FARS package consists of functions for reading and manipulating data from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), which is a nationwide census providing the American public yearly data regarding fatal injuries suffered in motor vehicle traffic crashes.

Functions

The package contains the following functions:

• fars_read : Reads the FARS data in csv format into a dataframe
• make_filename : Returns a FARS data filename for a specific year
• fars_read_years : Creates a dataframe from FARS data from multiple years
• fars_summarize_years : Creates a dataframe summarizing the number of observations by in FARS data from multiple years
• fars_map_state : Creates a map of accident locations for a given state and year
