This package is written for the capstone project of Mastering Software Development in R.

The package contains functions for reading, processing, and plotting earthquake data from NOAA. Please check the manual files for documentation of every function.

#### eq_clean_data

This method reads the earthquake data from file and tidy it up.
Example for calling is:

eqdata <- eq_clean_data ("data/signif.dat")

#### eq_location_clean

Clean the location name by removing the country name with colon.
Example for calling is:

eq_location_clean("GREECE: THERA ISLAND (SANTORINI)")

#### GeomTimeline

Function that constructa the grid objects for the layera from "geom_timeline".
The geom layer is called within geom_timeline

#### geom_timeline

This method creates the required layer containing the timeline geom for earthquake data on.
Example for calling is:

p <- readr::read_delim(file = "data/signif.dat", delim = "\t") %>% eq_clean_data() %>% eq_location_clean() %>% dplyr::filter(YEAR >= 2000, COUNTRY %in% "USA") %>% ggplot2::ggplot() + geom_timeline(ggplot2::aes(x = DATE, colour = DEATHS, size = EQ_MAG_ML)) + ggplot2::labs(x = "DATE", color = "Deaths", size = "Richter scale") gt <- ggplot2::ggplot_gtable(ggplot2::ggplot_build(p)) grid::grid.draw(gt)

#### geom_timeline_label

This method returns a layer that contains the timeline geom with labels for earthquake locations.
Example for calling is:

p <- readr::read_delim("data/signif.dat", delim = "\t") %>% eq_clean_data() %>% eq_location_clean() %>% dplyr::filter(YEAR >= 1900, !is.na(DEATHS), !is.na(EQ_MAG_ML), COUNTRY %in% c("CHINA", "USA")) %>% ggplot2::ggplot(ggplot2::aes(x = DATE, colour = DEATHS, size = EQ_MAG_ML)) + geom_timeline() + geom_timeline_label(ggplot2::aes(label = LOCATION_NAME, n_max = 5)) + ggplot2::labs(x = "DATE", color = "# deaths", size = "Richter scale value") gt <- ggplot2::ggplot_gtable(ggplot2::ggplot_build(p)) grid::grid.draw(gt)

#### GeomTimelineLabel

Function used internally to construct grid objects timeline geom with labels.

#### eq_map

This method uses leaflet to plot latitude and longitude for earthquakes on the map.
Example for calling is:

readr::read_delim("data/signif.dat", delim = "\t") %>% eq_clean_data() %>% dplyr::filter(COUNTRY == "MEXICO" & lubridate::year(DATE) >= 2000) %>% eq_map(annot_col = "DATE")

#### eq_create_label

This method returns a popup-text for each in the data frame with location name, magnitude and
deaths.
Example for calling is:

readr::read_delim("data/signif.dat", delim = "\t") %>% eq_clean_data() %>% dplyr::filter(COUNTRY == "MEXICO" & lubridate::year(DATE) >= 2000) %>% dplyr::mutate(popup_text = eq_create_label(.)) %>% eq_map(annot_col = "popup_text") ```
