Some rgbif features require GBIF login details. Most notably if you want to run occ_download, you need to supply

The best way to allow rgbif access to your GBIF credentials is to save them in your .Renviron file.

The easiest way to edit this file is by running:

install.packages("usethis")
usethis::edit_r_environ()

Edit your .Renviron to look like this:

GBIF_USER="jwaller"
GBIF_PWD="safe_fake_password_123"
GBIF_EMAIL="jwaller@gbif.org"

Now you should be able to run occ_download with no user, pwd, or email.

occ_download(pred("taxonKey", 2436775))

Third party log in

If you’ve only used Google, GitHub, ORCID, or other third-party methods to log in to GBIF, you’ll need to create a traditional GBIF username and password for occ_download and other functions that GBIF credentials.
