The tree was taken from the supplementary material. The following modifications were made:

• reduced to the taxa present in the energyexpenditure dataset.

• Euleumur fulvus used as the tip for the admixed Eulemur group

• Proteles cristatus renamed to Proteles cristata (typo in source)

• Homo sapiens renamed to Homo sapiens Hadza

• Canis rufus used for Canis familiaris

• Chrysochloris asiatica used for Eremitalpa namibensis

• Lemmus sibiricus used for Lemmus trimucronatus
