Merge Separate Channels into an Image

Description

merge returns an image from the combination of grayscale images corresponding to single channels (green, blue, red, or alpha).

Usage

merge(x, target = "new")

Arguments

x

A list of single channel (grayscale) Image objects.

target

The location where the results should be stored. It can take 2 values:

  • "new":a new Image object is created and the results are stored inside (the default).

  • An Image object:the results are stored in another existing Image object. This is fast but will replace the content of target. Note that if target does not have the same dimensions as the images in x and the same number of channels as the number of images in x, an error will be thrown.

Value

If target="new", the function returns an Image object. If target is an Image object, the function returns nothing and modifies that Image object in place.

Note

Color images are usually represented by 3 channels (possibly 4) in the following order: green (1), blue (2), red (3), and possibly alpha (4).
