Description

Includes 45 demographics variables for participants in NHANES 2003-2006.

Usage

Format

A data frame with 20470 observations on the following 45 variables.

seqn

Respondent sequence number (i.e. participant ID).

sddsrvyr

Data release number (3 if participant is from NHANES 2003-2004, 4 if participant is from NHANES 2005-2006).

ridstatr

Interview/examination status (1 if participant was interviewed only, 2 if participant was both interviewed and Mobile Examination Center examined).

ridexmon

Six month time period when examination was performed (1 for Nov. 1-April 30, 2 for May 1-Oct. 31).

riagendr

Gender (1 = Male, 2 = Female).

ridageyr

Age in years at time of household screening. Values are whole numbers from 0 to 85, with 85 indicating that the participant was 85 years of age or older.

ridagemn

Age in months at time of household screening for participants younger than 85 years.

ridageex

Age in months at time of examination for participants younger than 85 years.

ridreth1

Race/ethnicity (1 = Mexican American, 2 = Other Hispanic, 3 = Non-Hispanic White, 4 = Non-Hispanic Black, 5 = Other Race - Including Multi-Racial).

dmqmilit

Veteran/military status. Did you ever serve in the Armed Forces of the United States? (1 = Yes, 2 = No, 7 = Refused, 9 = Don't know)

dmdborn

Country of birth (1 = Born in 50 US States or Washington, DC, 2 = Born in Mexico, 3 = Born Elsewhere, 7 = Refused, 9 = Don't know).

Citizenship status (1 = Citizen by birth or naturalization, 2 = Not a citizen of the US, 7 = Refused, 9 = Don't know).

Length of time in US (1 = Less than 1 yr., 2 = 1 yr., less than 5 yrs., 3 = 5 yrs., less than 10 yrs., 4 = 10 yrs., less than 15 yrs., 5 = 15 yrs., less than 20 yrs., 6 = 20 yrs., less than 30 yrs., 7 = 30 yrs., less than 40 yrs., 8 = 40 yrs., less than 50 yrs., 9 = 50 yrs. or more, 77 = Refused, 88 = Could not determine, 99 = Don't know).
