Estimate the mean highest groundwater level from the groundwater table class

Description

This function estimates B_GWL_GHG from B_GWL_CLASS. It is used for backwards compatibility of ind_gw_recharge, where B_GWL_CLASS is deprecated.

Usage

est_gwl_ghg_from_class(B_GWL_CLASS)

Arguments

B_GWL_CLASS

(character) The groundwater table class

Details

The estimate is the midpoint of the GHG range of each groundwater table class. For classes with an open-ended GHG range up to class VId (Ic and IIc), the upper bound is set to 80 cm, so that classes I to VId (except IVc) have a GHG of at most 80 cm. Class IVc (GHG > 80 cm, GLG 80 - 120 cm) is set to 100 cm, so that IVc, VII and VIII have a GHG above 80 cm.

Value

The estimated mean highest groundwater level (B_GWL_GHG) in cm below ground level. A numeric value.
