h1(Reproducing the course at home)

All of this lab is built using docker https://www.docker.com/whatisdocker/, specifically, the docker project located at https://registry.hub.docker.com/u/bschiffthaler/ngs/, which means that you can replicate the entirety of this lab at home if you install docker and pull this repository.

The docker was configured to automatically start a web server which lets you view and/or download all the files which you will be using and creating. To look at it you require your port from before: open a web browser and navigate to http://watson.plantphys.umu.se:82$PORT, where $PORT is again your assigned port. You should see an index which lists your home folder, which you can click to navigate to sub-directories or files.

Those of you who are familiar with Linux command line can skip ahead to the “Exercise” section, for those who are not, we have prepared a few exercises to familiarize yourself with the most important commands. As a quick reference, there are many “Linux cheat sheets” which provide short explanations of the commands, such as this one: http://files.fosswire.com/2007/08/fwunixref.pdf. Let’s try some commands! If you prefer, you can watch me explain the commands here: https://asciinema.org/a/18004. You can even copy/paste code from this video!

If you don’t know how to list directories, move or copy files, delete files and directories or change the working directory, please complete this UNIX tutorial at least until (including) chapter two: http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Teaching/Unix/
