brownfields: Brownfield Sites

Description Usage Format Details Source

Description

A dataset containing an index of brownfield sites in South Carolina compiled by the US EPA. Brownfields are previous developments that are barred from redevelopment due to possible contamination. The EPA provides loans to local environmental control agencies to fund brownfield cleanups so that the land can be redeveloped. Brownfields create an economic and environmental strain on the community, which can adversely affect health. The processed dataset includes the site name, identification numbers, latitude/longitude, and census tract information. This dataset is categorized as a Natural and Build Environment Determinant of Health.
